Edict Zero Update #3

I’m a little behind in updating the Slipgate 9 blog, but here’s the third one. Episode 306 – “Horizons (I)” will be released on March 1rst. It was truly a challenge to return to production after being away from it so long, slow-going at first, but I feel that I’m back up to par, both on a technical level and with the character voices that I do.

Work on 307 – “Horizons (II)” will begin shortly after the release of 306. For that, we’re probably looking at a late May, early June release. I’m shooting a little long in projecting that, to be on the safe side. That will be the Season 3 finale and really the series finale for “Edict Zero – FIS”, but have no fear as the trilogy of features that will continue the Edict Zero story is a locked-in thing for the 2015 – 2017 time frame. The trilogy is being constructed so that it may stand alone, albeit with the Edict Zero – FIS series as its backstory, one it’s to be hoped that future fans of the trilogy will go back and check out, if they haven’t already.

Edict Zero media tie-ins will also happen in conjunction with the trilogy.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. The good news for now is that 306 is on the way after our long hiatus. I look forward to bringing it to you.

Thanks to all the fans.

Progress Update #2 – Edict Zero

Hello, all.  Jack Kincaid here.  I promised another update on this site much sooner than this, but better late than never.  The script to Edict Zero EP306 – “Horizons (I)” was recently released to the cast and the voice tracks are already coming in.  I have also begun recording voice for my own characters.   The next question on the minds of fans is surely: when can we expect EP306?  I don’t have an answer for that as of yet.  What I can tell you is that production has started and there will progress updates on Edict Zero’s facebook page more so than here. The more places I have to write updates to, the less time I have for production, writing, and other things.  Time is not something I have an abundance of, as I did in the past.  Patience requested, but we are definitely, officially rolling forward.

As for the future of Edict Zero, post Season 3, I have elected to produce a trilogy of feature lengths (2-2.5 hours each, to guesstimate based on what I have in mind).  This will be the culmination of the series story.  You might liken what I’m planning to a trilogy of movies.  I toy with the idea that this trilogy could function as a stand-alone, but that I am still debating.  Either way, a gargantuan finish and it’s to be hoped: a magnum opus of sound.  This will be in the 2015-2016 time frame.  Venue is also being pondered.

The next post on the Slipgate Nine blog will be when I have set a release date for EP306.

Thanks to all involved in Edict Zero and that includes you, loyal fans and listeners.

Progress Update #1 – Edict Zero

I said I would toss up another post about the progress of Edict Zero’s return, so here it is. There has been a lot of script reworking going on, mindful of not just of the next episode itself but of the totality of the series and where it’s headed. The big picture is of monstrous pertinence.

EP306-EP307 has probably been rewritten and gutted about a dozen times over the past six months. The work was not continuous during that time frame as life intervened with major events, traditional employment, the magazine podcasts, and, of course, my post-production gigs for The Apocalypse Triptych audiobook series.

Originally, there was a much larger story arc planned, one which could have extended into ten or more seasons, but that’s indicative of a kind of madness. From such madness often arises ambition too excessive to be realistic (unless some incredible wealth falls in my lap). What I don’t want to do is put the fans into a situation where a conclusion to the story may never be reached and leave it forever dangling at some point farther down the road.

What I can tell you for sure is that the next release(s) will bring Season 3 to an end. The structure of what will come thereafter is still up in the air, as the pros and cons are weighed of another season of smaller episodes, including monster-of-the-week ones to explore different aspects of Edict Zero, or go straight to how I planned to end EZ: with a trilogy of two-hour feature lengths that would be comparable to movies–sans the visuals, obviously.

I expect to reach that decision in mid-November when the production phase actually starts rolling.

I wish there was more to report right now. In a week, I should have more to say.

The Return of Edict Zero

‘Edict Zero – FIS’ will be returning. The process has just begun and all cast members have agreed to return to the show to reprise their roles. I don’t have specific details as to when production will begin or any release will happen, but there will be drips of news and progress updates on Edict Zero’s facebook page.

Click here to jump to it.

The Slipgate Nine blog won’t be updated until I have more concrete details and can speculate about dates. At the time of this entry, it’s in a preliminary development stage, dealing with story, scripts, direction of the series, and so forth.

Thanks to all the fans for the enthusiasm, for enduring the hiatus, and for your continued patience as the ball starts rolling again.

The Hiatus Continues

I haven’t posted here in a while, but unfortunately there is not much to report, except that production of Edict Zero – FIS remains on hiatus. I don’t know when and if that situation will change, but I thank the fans of the show who have supported it since it began in 2010.

If there’s anything new to report in the future, this is where it would happen.

Thanks and cheers.

On Edict Zero’s EP305 and The Hiatus That Follows

The latest episode of Edict Zero, EP305 – “The Quondam Heart (II)”, was released yesterday on the show’s website. I hope fans enjoy it.

EP305 offers some tremendous moments for the story as a lead-up to a Season 3 finale. When that will happen is probably the next thing that I ought to address.

I expect to return to production in the fall. I cannot promise. Fall is my intent. Post-production is all me and it takes a lot to make the episodes sound as I want them to.

When Season Two ended, I wasn’t completely sure that Edict Zero would continue. It wasn’t because I lost faith in it, but rather I didn’t know if the changes in my life would make it possible. That’s part of the reason why I devoted so much time to the character of Captain Socrates at the end, as it was important to me that he was better understood. There was a very real possibility that EP207 would be my last word. Grim as things were, I carried on with Season 3 anyway.

Over this past year, I sacrificed more than a little in the name of art and continuing this good thing. It has had its benefits, measured by such things as greater experience for me on about all levels, telling a story as I want to tell it, and the show’s growing fan-base to whom I am indebted.

As this is a non-monetized endeavor, totally for free as I believed it should be, it hasn’t been beneficial in other areas. There are other things that I need to tend to. Have to. It wouldn’t be healthy or wise to put them off for much longer. I refer to professional and life things alike.

Even having said that, I have zero regrets. I am proud as hell of the last five episodes. Edict Zero may not have the promotional machine that some other shows employ and big names of the moment shouting its praises from the rooftops, but make no mistake, the eyes of time see what was done here. I know it. I would take none of it back. The upward curve has gone into the sky. I could not be happier with its evolution.

In short, Edict Zero will return. It just may be a little while before that happens. I hope for Fall. This is a good thing that we have going. Unless I meet an untimely demise, I will see it to an eventual conclusion. 😉

Patience requested.

Thanks, everybody.

EP304 – “The Quondam Heart (I)” — Due July 8th.

The next episode, EP304 – “The Quondam Heart (I)” – will be released shortly after midnight EST in the first minutes of July 8th.

After what has been called by many a quintessential episode, the monstrous EP303- “No Bounds”, this new episode is off-beat, but like all eps, I hope, will shine its own right. It sees the return of two popular characters of the past, Special Agent Nick Garrett (reprised by James Keller) and Captain Socrates (reprised by Jack Kincaid, me), who haven’t been heard from since the Season 2 finale and in almost a year in real-time. It’s big for the story and as an added bonus fun at the same time. It also introduces a new characters in a shadow group who will be joining the dynamic of Edict Zero as the story develops in the future.

The episode after, EP305 – “The Quondam Heart (II)” — will be released in August. The original intent was to release it exactly one month after 304, but that may not happen, so I won’t be setting a specific release date at this time.

Quality is paramount to me and time isn’t as plentiful this month with real life stuff. I will keep listeners updated as to when the preview for EP305 will be released and by that time when the full episode should be available.

Patience appreciated. I repeat it to the point of redundancy, I fear, but nonetheless, these productions take a lot.

Thanks to all listeners.
