Edict Zero Update – Season 4

EP402 – “Ghosts (I)” was released yesterday on the website. Thanks to all listeners for your patience in-between releases as post-production is done by one person. Me. My estimates to when releases will happen have been off as well as life and the demands of life changes.

Echoed from the FB page:

A few words now that Ghosts (I) has been released. First, to new listeners, Edict Zero is in a sense served two ways. The full experience comes via a good pair of stereo headphones. On the other hand, if you want the more traditional radio drama experience with the voices more in the foreground and the soundscape restrained, you’ll want to go with speakers, but you’ll only be getting half the experience.

“Ghosts(I)” is the smaller episode of the Ghosts arc. In it, there’s the set-up for Ghosts (II), what’s sure to be a classic Spoon scene, and a pivotal scene for the future of Nick Garrett in the series. What it doesn’t have is any big cliff-hanger that will drive you crazy waiting for the next one. I really can’t utilize that device with a series that’s released on an irregular schedule that sometimes changes. I count on the quality and investment in characters to bring people back.

EP403 – “Ghosts (II)” will be longer. To say it’s ambitious would understate and there’s more I want to do with it than originally planned. It has a lot of action. A hell of a lot going on. The release date for that is TBA. It will be a little while, as I soon return to college which must come first, but I will be working on it. The delay might make the wait for 404 slightly less excruciating as that is a biggie for the series, will be challenging, and won’t be till 2017.

Thanks to all the listeners who keep Edict Zero alive. Cheers, everyone.

Season 4 of Edict Zero – FIS

Apologies for not keeping this site up to date. On May 30th, the first episode of Season 4 — EP401 – PARADIGMS — was released on the website. The hoped-for schedule for the summer isn’t quite working out, but I am pleased to report that the next episode, EP402 – “GHOSTS (I)” is in post-production right now. The episode to follow, EP403 – “GHOSTS (II)” is mostly produced and some elements of it are in post. We hit a number of bumps, for reasons including expanding the cast list, script issues, schedules, and personal lives, but the momentum is picking enough where I can feel confident enough to say that EP402 will be released in August.

There’s also an Edict Zero trailer in the works.

For those interested in the Edict Zero universe tie-in stories and who may not know, I did an experimental film as a student that ties in with the backstory. It’s called “The Strange Case of Doctor Barron”. You can check that out on youtube here.

I thank the fans for their enthusiasm and saintly patience. Wheels are turning.

Edict Zero – Season 4 – Update

Jack Kincaid here. Fans of Edict Zero – FIS will be pleased to hear that Season 4 is presently in production and post is already underway for the first episode, 401, “Paradigms”, although without the usual momentum. I mentioned in my last update that March was my best guess for when the releases would begin. I have decided to slate it for May instead. Part of this has to do with my busy schedule, which includes being a full-time college student in Communication (Audio-Radio, Video Production, Film Studies). Most of it, however, has to do with wanting to come back strong and be a little ahead of the game when the first episode drops. Moreover, there are other things that I want to do, such as work on the website and a few other related media things, which I have been wanting to do for some time and I feel strongly should coincide with the start of the new season.

What this really boils down to in the end is you will have the first run of episodes closer together in release dates, rather than spread two months or more apart. The other good news is that I have summers mostly free and I’m in a position where my main focus can be on Edict Zero for half of May, June, July, and most of August.

I plan previews leading up to the release, of course, in addition to other things.

That’s all for now. The wheels are rolling.

Edict Zero – Season 3 – Finale Episodes

The latest news about the Season 3 finale of Edict Zero – FIS is that what was originally to be one episode has been split into two episodes, EP307 – “Horizons (II)” and EP308 – “Horizons (III)”, due to its gargantuan size. Both episodes are officially in the production phase. I expect that Horizons (II) will come out next month. I hope for early in the month, but I can’t say for sure. Yet. As for Horizons (III), the end finale, I hope for the end of next month, but it may be in the first two weeks of July. No later. That’s an imperative. I know that you will agree with my sentiment of “the sooner, the better”.

I expect to have a firm date for 307 in about two weeks.

What happens after Season 3 is a break, during which I will be making a move, resettling, and preparing for the start of Season 4, for which all the main cast will be returning as far as I know and there will be some special guests making “appearances” for that season. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves, though.

As always, I thank the fans for their continued support. Also, to address what I thought was self-evident, files for Edict Zero have been mirrored by many sites and evidently are floating around various sharing services and the like. That is AOK. That’s completely in the spirit of the Creative Commons License. It’s meant to be shared freely, spread as far and wide as you desire by whatever means. As long as people aren’t profiting off it, it’s all good. Thumbs up.

Thanks, everyone. Keep an eye on the facebook page or the website page in the coming weeks as that’s where the release dates will be announced, when they’re announced. There won’t be another post here until EP307 comes out.

Cheers!

The Season 3 Finale

An update here is overdue, so here it is. The first part of the Season 3 finale of Edict Zero – FIS, EP306 – “Horizons (I)” – was released on March 1rst on the website. The second part, “Horizons (II)”, was supposed to come out of preproduction this past week, but real life rudely intervened, as sometimes happens. I expect the dust to settle this weekend and for the final script to go out next week. Once that happens, production will promptly begin.

Another bit of news is that I have decided to produce a Season 4, which I will begin work on from the moment Season 3 comes to a close. To clear up any past confusion, the plan before now was to end the “Edict Zero – FIS” series with Season 3, but not the story which would continue in a three-part trilogy of features. Though Season 3 is going to answer some of the big questions, it was not going to wrap everything up to a story conclusion. That will be the function of the culmination in the trilogy.

The trilogy is still on, but it will be after a Season 4.

There’s nothing else to report right now except I enjoy reading fan reactions to EP306 and the series as a whole. I’m thankful for the fans and it will be my pleasure to continue the Edict Zero story into the future.

Cheers!

Edict Zero Update #3

I’m a little behind in updating the Slipgate 9 blog, but here’s the third one. Episode 306 – “Horizons (I)” will be released on March 1rst. It was truly a challenge to return to production after being away from it so long, slow-going at first, but I feel that I’m back up to par, both on a technical level and with the character voices that I do.

Work on 307 – “Horizons (II)” will begin shortly after the release of 306. For that, we’re probably looking at a late May, early June release. I’m shooting a little long in projecting that, to be on the safe side. That will be the Season 3 finale and really the series finale for “Edict Zero – FIS”, but have no fear as the trilogy of features that will continue the Edict Zero story is a locked-in thing for the 2015 – 2017 time frame. The trilogy is being constructed so that it may stand alone, albeit with the Edict Zero – FIS series as its backstory, one it’s to be hoped that future fans of the trilogy will go back and check out, if they haven’t already.

Edict Zero media tie-ins will also happen in conjunction with the trilogy.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. The good news for now is that 306 is on the way after our long hiatus. I look forward to bringing it to you.

Thanks to all the fans.

Cheers!

–Jack

Progress Update #1 – Edict Zero

I said I would toss up another post about the progress of Edict Zero’s return, so here it is. There has been a lot of script reworking going on, mindful of not just of the next episode itself but of the totality of the series and where it’s headed. The big picture is of monstrous pertinence.

EP306-EP307 has probably been rewritten and gutted about a dozen times over the past six months. The work was not continuous during that time frame as life intervened with major events, traditional employment, the magazine podcasts, and, of course, my post-production gigs for The Apocalypse Triptych audiobook series.

Originally, there was a much larger story arc planned, one which could have extended into ten or more seasons, but that’s indicative of a kind of madness. From such madness often arises ambition too excessive to be realistic (unless some incredible wealth falls in my lap). What I don’t want to do is put the fans into a situation where a conclusion to the story may never be reached and leave it forever dangling at some point farther down the road.

What I can tell you for sure is that the next release(s) will bring Season 3 to an end. The structure of what will come thereafter is still up in the air, as the pros and cons are weighed of another season of smaller episodes, including monster-of-the-week ones to explore different aspects of Edict Zero, or go straight to how I planned to end EZ: with a trilogy of two-hour feature lengths that would be comparable to movies–sans the visuals, obviously.

I expect to reach that decision in mid-November when the production phase actually starts rolling.

I wish there was more to report right now. In a week, I should have more to say.

Cheers.

–Jack
